This season we’ll have a weekly segment called “The Big One” where we feature a game with post-game articles and/or analysis including video from our friends at Coon Rapids Sports on YouTube.  Our next “Big One” of the 2010 season will be Andover @ Blaine on Friday, October 15th (7:00pm).

This game has lost a little of its “bigness” with Andover’s loss last week at Coon Rapids but I suspect they will come ready to play this week.  A year ago these two teams met under similar circumstances.  Blaine was 5-1 and rolling while Andover, also 5-1, was coming off its first loss of the season – an upset at the hands of Anoka.  Blaine jumped on Andover early in that game and coasted to a 33-13 victory.

Statistically speaking Blaine is best team in the Northwest Suburban Conference this season.  They are undefeated, first in scoring offense averaging a little over 35 points per game and first in scoring defense giving up an average of just 11 points per game.   Most of those points come early for Blaine as they average 25 points per game in the first half alone.  Champlin Park gave Blaine their toughest game of the season in a 28-21 loss but were down 28-7 before they began to assert themselves.  If Andover can limit the first half damage and get into the locker room at halftime within a touchdown it could be an interesting second half.

The biggest conference game of 2010 season is upon us.  Does Blaine continue to distance themselves from the rest of this conference with another convincing victory?  Can Andover rebound from a poor showing last week with an upset this week?  We’ll find out Friday!

Other A-B-C games this week:

* Anoka @ Centennial
* Coon Rapids @ Osseo
